Christmas giving in hospitals 2008

Pre-Christmas giving in the Clinic of Pediatric Oncology in Brno

The representatives of the E.ON Company, as is its tradition, bring gifts to the Department of Pediatric Oncology of the Motol Hospital in Prague. And beginning this year, the small patients of the Clinic of Pediatric Oncology in Brno and the Pediatric Department of the České Budějovice Hospital also will enjoy our gifts.

This year, for the first time, we went to the Pediatric Hospital in Brno and visited the Clinic of Pediatric Oncology. After agreement with the clinic representatives, we bought laptops, DVD players, LCD monitors, PlayStation and a television, with a value of several tens of thousand of crowns. We brought a play kitchen for the future housewives, and a bathing table for dolls in the playroom. And, now, the small handymen can play with a new work-bench with tools, and a garage with an elevator. In addition, we brought new magic tables, sound toys, cubes, modular systems and a few cars.

Gifts for the individual patients, which were prepared according to their ages, and gender, were handed over in Brno on December 4th by Zdeněk Bauer, Chairman of the Board of E.ON Distribuce, a.s. Accompanied by the Head Physician of the clinic, prof. MUDr. Jaroslav Štěrba, PhDr., he visited all the departments. He personally distributed the presents to each ill child, for the most part in the company of the parents, and he wished everyone Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and, of course, the best health. Prof. MUDr. Štěrba, PhDr. appreciated the human and devoted approach to the small patients. "It is difficult to prepare such a broad spectrum of gifts for the children we have here. Our youngest patient is less than two months old, and the oldest one is 19 years old. But as I could see, they made everyone happy, and I am very thankful for that."

The physicians and the nurses we met were highly professional. The atmosphere in the hospital was enriched by the human approach to the sick. And, most significantly, the number of the recovered children proves that the health care of the oncologically ill children in the Czech Republic is on a world-class level.

We were glad we could see, at least for a moment, the smiles on the children's faces. On the way home, we saw the children, leaving the ambulatory, happily carrying the bags with the E.ON gifts.

E.ON brought gifts for under the Christmas tree also in Motol and Budějovice

E.ON was giving gifts to ill children before the last year's Christmas not only in Brno, but again, for the fourth year, in the Faculty Hospital in Motol and, for the first time, in České Budějovice. "That is so nice of you, thank you," said one of the moms with emotion. She was spending the Advent time visiting her son at the pediatric department in the České Budějovice Hospital. Her boy received a bag full of gifts from the E.ON Česká Republika Executive, Mr. Lorenz Pronnet. Two televisions and a computer were also donated to the department along with a bag of age-appropriate gifts for each of the approximately thirty hospitalized children. This was the Christmas event in the South Bohemia metropolis. The patients at the Department of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology in Motol received similar gifts. "We are very glad that you brought your presents to our small children, and we hope to meet here again together next year," said the head physician of the department MUDr. Vladislav Smrčka. The exceptional generosity of the entire situation was attested by the great deal of attention paid by the regional media.

82 beds of the pediatric department of the České Budějovice Hospital hold young patients being treated for all types of children's illnesses with exception of infectious illnesses. "Every year, close to 4 000 children accompanied by adults are hospitalized here," mentioned the head physician of the department, MUDr. Vladislav Smrčka.

The Clinic of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology in Motol has 91 beds located in 6 departments. The clinic also has the Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit, where approximately 50 children patients from the entire Czech Republic undergo this demanding treatment.
