Arpida

The Children's Centre Arpida in Česke Budějovice, provides a comprehensive care of complex rehabilitation within its premises, in particularly to physically handicapped children and children with a combined bodily handicap. The donated money will be used especially for the running of the Centre and for building renovations. We were presenting cheque for half a million crowns during a simulated training of evacuation of handicapped children from the burning building in the year 2007. Practice of the rescue operation was organized by the South-bohemian Regional Medical Rescue Service and E.ON Company that funds not only the above-mentioned Children's Centre, but the Medical Rescue Service as well. "We have not carried out this form of evacuation so far, rather in a theoretical way," commented Bohumil Hruška from the South-bohemian Firefighter Rescue Corps.

Usefulness of such operations was also confirmed by the director of the South-bohemian Medical Rescue Service, Marek Slabý. "We can never practise the real-life situation, because every emergency response is a specific one. Yet this practice is very essential. Here we find out which way to evacuate and how to proceed in detail. Moreover, our rescuers can try out how to deal with handicapped persons who need intensive help and may not be cooperative," explained Marek Slabý.

Also, the Arpidy director Jiří Jankovský spoke highly of the practice. "Fortunately, we haven't had to cope with a similar situation yet and I believe that this will never happen. Despite of that, this was a unique chance to try out how challenging an evacuation of children is. It's an experience that will come in useful anytime," said Mr. Jankovský.
