For several years already, E.ON has been supporting the Hrady na Malši Association with the intention of preserving at least some historical structures for future generations. The Association was formed in October 2004 by the transformation of the Society for Pořešín castle with the aim of expanding the area of interest to the region of the upper course of the Malše river, which also includes a part of the old provincial route from Freistadt, Austria, to Budějovice, Czech Republic, the so-called "Cáhlov route", and a tower lying by it at Tichá, along with the Louzek, Sokolčí, Pořešín and Velešín castles.
The aim of the Hrady na Malši Association is to approach the issue of protection of historical monuments in a sensitive, responsible way and with an understanding for local conditions. With regard to the fact that it usually concerns castle ruins in an advanced state of deterioration, the Association focuses on performing non-destructive surveys and sensitive conservation of preserved structures. Archaeological surveys are only planned afterwards and only in localities where they are indispensable. "For us, an ideal result of our efforts is creation of an environment that will be an oasis of relaxation in today's supercivilised society and a sought-after place for learning about our common history and architecture," says the secretary of the Association, Radek Kocanda.
Besides construction works on individual castles, the Association also organises cultural events. Visitors to Pořešín castle have already become used to a regular cultural summer, which includes e.g. a theatrical presentation at the third castle courtyard and night concerts of historical music. Since 2004, the Hrady na Malši Association has been a member of the pan-European organisation of heritage institutions called Europa Nostra with its seat in the Hague, Netherlands, and cooperates intensively with the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, the National Institute for Preservation of Historical Monuments, the National Archives and other partners.
