Cars and buses drive cheaply and ecologically thanks to CNG

CNG natural gas

Natural gas is considered as an effective substitute for traditional motor fuels. Its worldwide proven stock, at the current consumption rate, will last humanity for almost two centuries. Besides use in the home and in industry, natural gas is now also becoming desirable for fuelling vehicles.

More than 5 million vehicles in the world now run on natural gas, of which a significant percentage is made up of buses. It is used for fuelling vehicles in the form of compressed natural gas (CNG).

Cheaply, safely, ecologically

Running vehicles on compressed natural gas is cheaper, safer and more ecological than running vehicles on petrol or diesel.

Cheaply

Driving vehicles on compressed natural gas (CNG) is beneficial particularly for vehicles with a higher number of kilometres on the clock. The return on the invested finances is dependent on the number of kilometres driven per year. The operating costs of CNG compared to petrol are one-third lower.

Price of CNG: CZK 21.70/kg
Valid from 1 December 2007

Safely

Compared to petrol, diesel or liquefied propane-butane (LPG), natural gas is lighter than air. Pressurised containers for CNG, usually with a volume of 70 l, fitted with a closing valve and an excess current fuse, are safer than tanks for holding petrol or diesel. Pressurised containers for CNG are usually made of steel, but containers made of aluminium or composite materials are also penetrating the market. The fuel system is reliable and faultless.

Ecologically

Natural gas is made up of 98% methane (CH4), and vehicles running on natural gas therefore produce distinctly less harmful substances than vehicles with classic fuel mechanisms. Also the greenhouse gas effect of these vehicles is smaller in comparison with petrol and diesel.

Vehicles running on natural gas

Mass transformations of Škoda and Renault cars have been approved in the Czech Republic. A number of European car makers (e.g. Fiat, Opel, Volkswagen and Volvo) offer gas versions of vehicles directly.
