The history of Jihomoravská plynárenská, a. s. (JMP) based in Brno (Southern Moravia) goes back to the year 1840. It became a joint-stock company in 1994.

The core activities of JMP are natural gas trading and distribution. JMP holds a key position among distributors in the Czech Republic market. Its share of the Czech Republic market is approximately 25 percent. The most significant consumers of natural gas have traditionally been companies and households in Southern Moravia.

E.ON Czech Holding AG owns a veto power minority in the company and it is its second largest shareholder. The main shareholder of JMP is RWE.
